Digital freedom
As of May 1, El País will only let you read 10 articles/columns a month before asking you to subscribe. It is what is called a porous paywall: the sample is free, but if you want more, you have to pay. The first month costs 1 euro, the following ones, 10 euros. No permanence.
Faced with the restriction of all content proposed by the El País paywall, we have the proposal activated by El Mundo in October 2019: the freemium model, which distinguishes between free access content and exclusive content for subscribers. In the case of El Mundo, the paid content are the opinion columns, some political analysis, almost all the International reports, the long economic articles and some interviews (the one with Fernando Aramburu is paid, the one with Máximo Huerta, free access). In reality, it is not easy to know why some news items are paid and others are not, although there are some sections that are mostly open: political current affairs, culture, sports and gossip.
